Final engineer studying project for ENSAIS (Ecole NationaleSupérieure des Arts et Industries de Strasbourg) Diploma by C.Martz :

Design of a testing ground and characterization of P.Pantone's GEET process based on hydrocarbon conversion

(Viva on October 11th 2001 for ENSAIS mechanical engineer diploma)

Introduction and studying context

On first semester of years 2000/2001 I had to done a study about urban clean propulsion vehicles, that means using clean energy. In fact, the study has done a global aspect of the emission problem. Then I have found GEET process. As a curious and environment sensible student, I decided to ask my professor if a final engineer studying project on GEET was possible. After a little discussion, they were agreed to begin a projet for characterization of GEET process. I had then to study and design a testing ground of characterization. But, as the in-reactor reaction is really complex and still unexplained by Pantone himself, I was'nt able to done a complete characterization of GEET. At the most I just had 5 months to finish the project. (Finally the project lasted 8months) That's why this project is just a pre-characterization of GEET. Supplementary studies are necessary to obtain a full characterization of the process, of course I am ready to work, with external supports, on these studies. As the GEET is a very promising process, with all my heart and anyhow, I'd like to go on my researches on GEET. Of course these studies wont be able without financial, technical and equipment supports. I am now in a period looking for these supports.Obviously, I will examinate all supports possible then, pleasecontact me if you think you could help me whatever the means.

I will present you here a little overview (my studying report is 110 p. long)of my 8 months project. A very long time has been taken to build the prototype (and to wait for the deliveries !) but the testing results I could have done are very promising.

Testing ground design & building

I consider that the reader knows perfectly the basis of the GEET technology, that's why I won'tspeak about the building and the assembly of the testing ground. Here there are just 2 pictures of the final testing group built on a 9 cv and 4 kVa generating unit. The assembly is basic and not optimized for performances, I have just followed the basic plan which Pantone has given on Internet. The only modification is the use of 2 bullers (1 for hydrocarbon, 1 for water) instead of1.

This testing ground has been built to characterizethe GEET process by mesuring definite points as, for instance, the specific consumption (i.e. output) ,different flows, temperatures, pressures, H2/O2 gas analysis...

Testing ground

Experimental reactor

The following remarks are just the most remarkable results that I havenoted. Please contact me for others results, informations and observations.

So I give you here the most remarkable results ( lot of them would have to be completed during further studies) in order to have a global comprehension of the process.

Results and remarkable observations.

1) Fuel (gas) consumption.

Electrical OUTPUT of the generator in % electric on electrical power in Watts at 3000 turn/min ( 50Hz)

The 3 different functionings are the following :

1)Origin functioning

2)Carburator functioning with exhaust gas in reactor (we have a double admission pipe)

3)GEET functioning,

Analysis :

We have not noted a fabulous gain in consumption however with a simple stack of iron pipe, we find the consumption of a carburator which had necessitated more than 20 years of industrial search (in the 1920's).

Comparing the 2) and 1) functioning,we can say that our exhaust circuit is a flange for the good work of the motor. That means that with an optimized exhaust circuit (acoustic optimization for instance) the GEET consumption gain has lot of chance to be better. Likewise, our fuel injection isnt controled with precision.

Improvement and further studies about this point :

- Improved and more simple builts and with a better fuel injection control would certainly have a better consumption.

- On the testing ground, we couldn't change a very important parameter for a gas motor : the ignition lead. This lead bring about all the functioning of a gas motor. This is a FUNDAMENTAL parameter which absolutly must be optimized with GEET.

2) Exhaust gas pollution.

We have done comparative measures between functioning 2) and functioning 3)(see Fuel (gas) consumption). This measures have been made at 3000 tr/min with variable electrical charge and without any exhaust gaz re-injection.

Classical pollutants in 2) (CARBURATOR) functioning on electrical charge

Classical pollutants in 3) (GEET) functioning on electrical charge

Reduction of pollutants between 2) and 3) functionning

Analysis :

The fall pollution on CO and HC (unburnts) is remarkable. Furthermore on carbon gas the pollution is falling with the motor's charge (40% to 70% of diminution) Maybe the conversion reaction is more efficient when the motor is loaded (that means exhaust gas are heater).

At this time we dont know where the rest of carbon is :a classical gas or fuel combustion give 14 to 16% carbon gaz (CO+CO2), with GEET we are at 6%maximum (only CO2), which means that quantity of carbon are missing in exhaust gas...I hope that further experiences would solve this problem and say where is the carbon.

Improvement and further studies about this point :

- Further study of exaust gas and GEET gas (chimicale) could certainly resolve the problem on carbon missing. Others pollutants (Nox and others) must be analysed too in order that we can say GEET IS A 100% CLEAN PROCESS.

3) Remarks on reactor rod.

After a few hours of functionning, we have noted some interesting remarks on some rod(we got 9 rods of different dimensions). This remarks can give ideas for further studies.

Observing a hot point on the cold side of the rod. A cold point is just after this hot point which show that the reaction has inner-reaction high temperature. I mean this hot point does NOT come from exhaust gas high temperature.

Observing a spiral appearance on one rod after more than 15 hof functioning.

Analysis :

We have got here 2 elements of GEET pre-characterization : the inner-heat of reaction and the gas-spiral in reactor. Further and experimental assembly will confirm (or infirm) these remarks.

Improvement and further studies about this point :

Building of experimental reactor of characterization to get :

- the exact temperatures on the rod.

- a real-time observation of the spiral with a transparent reactor ( with a high frequency camera)

4) Gas analysis

We have done a real-time gas analysis of H2 and O2 of the reactor out-gas (called GEET gas) But we have not found a significant content of hydrogen. Then, for us, reaction does not product hydrogen, but our measures were not very reliable (all measures on hydrogen are very difficult). But if it really is not hydrogen, the GEET gas is certainly a high hydrogenous gas (smell of ether) which got the energectic advantages of hydrogen.

I have done little arithmetics on a GEET modifed Diesel tractor and the results give that GEET gas (obtained from just water and air) supplies more energy than the hydrogen extracted from the same quantity of water (if GEET gas was just hydrogen)!! However, the leak of measuring ways has given very aproximate results, but the fuel consumption of this modified tractor was, all the same, divided by 2. Here are the detailed arithmetics (but in French).

Alltough, we have managed to done a chromatographic analysis of the incoming and outcoming gas in the reactor.

Chromatografic analysis between incoming gas (=fuel and watervapors) and outcoming gas (=GEET gas) in reactor.

Analysis :

GEET gas, outcoming in reactor, is more volatile and simple than the fuel andwater vapors incoming in reactor. Then it is sure than there is a gas conversion in the reactor but the obtained GEET gas must be exactly definited.

Improvement and further studies about this point :

- GEET gas is still unknown, it MUST be analysis by different ways( chemical, spectral...)

Conclusion and prospects

The efficient in depollution of GEET is prooved and that was on a basic, not optimized, assembly.

Nevertheless further researches and supplementary studies are absolutly necessary to continue the development of GEET. These works will go in 2 directions : the comprehension of the reaction and the adaptation of GEET on existing systems. These 2 axis of research do'nt need the same means but the global comprehension of the reaction would help to still increase the efficiency of GEET. This efficiency could be remarkable on full optimized assembly.

Then I ask for competent persons, institute, enterprises or organism,self-interested in the GEET (who couldnt be interested in a diminution of pollutants and consumption?) to contact me (even if a industrialization may not be imminent and that a GEET's licence would have to be negociated  with Pantone.) Moreover this page is just a little abstract of the analysis I have done. My complete analysis has a lot supplementary informations. If you want to obtain further informations or to give your own analysis and ideas on GEET, please contact me.As I already said : with all my heart and anyhow, I'd like to go on my researches on GEET
